Saron marmoratus, commonly known as the Marbled Cleaner Shrimp, is a visually captivating male invertebrate prized in marine aquariums for its distinctive marbled pattern and cleaning behaviour. Available in various sizes, this species adds both colour and ecological benefit to reef tanks.
Care Level: Moderate care is recommended due to their specific feeding and habitat needs.
Feeding: Saron marmoratus is omnivorous, feeding on detritus, small invertebrates, and leftover food. Supplement their diet with meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and specialised crustacean pellets to ensure optimal health.
Compatibility: Generally peaceful and reef safe, these shrimps coexist well with most fish and invertebrates. Avoid housing with aggressive predators that may view them as prey.
Reef Safety: Yes. They are considered reef safe and beneficial due to their cleaning habits, which help control parasites and detritus.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to provide ample space and stable water conditions. Maintain stable parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow mimic their natural reef environment and promote healthy behaviour.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with crevices and hiding spots to encourage natural foraging and shelter.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 10 cm in length.
