Leander plumosus is a small, visually striking crab species prized in marine aquariums for its unique appearance and peaceful nature. This species is available in various sizes, making it suitable for a range of tank setups.
Care and Feeding: Leander plumosus thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as finely chopped seafood, mysis shrimp, and specialised invertebrate pellets. Regular feeding is essential to maintain health, as they are not efficient scavengers. It is recommended to feed small amounts multiple times per week.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This species is generally peaceful and compatible with other non-aggressive invertebrates and fish. It is considered reef safe, but care should be taken when housing with larger predatory species that may harass or prey upon it.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 30 litres is advised to provide adequate space and stable water parameters. Moderate water flow and stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 22-26°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and pH 8.1-8.4 are ideal. Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and grazing.
Additional Notes: Handle with care as this species is delicate. Regular water changes and maintaining high water quality will support longevity and wellbeing.
