Lunella coronata, commonly known as the crowned turban snail, is a robust and attractive marine snail popular among reef aquarium hobbyists. Its primary role is natural algae control, grazing effectively on various types of algae and biofilm, helping to maintain a clean and balanced tank environment.
These snails are reef safe and compatible with most peaceful tank inhabitants, making them an excellent choice for mixed reef systems. They are generally hardy and adapt well to typical marine aquarium conditions.
Care and Husbandry
- Diet: Primarily herbivorous, feeding on algae and biofilm. Supplement with dried seaweed or algae wafers if natural algae is insufficient.
- Compatibility: Peaceful and reef safe; avoid housing with aggressive predators such as large crabs or pufferfish.
- Tank Size: Suitable for tanks from 30 litres upwards, ensuring adequate grazing area.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4.
- Placement: Provide plenty of live rock and algae growth for grazing; ensure secure tank lid to prevent escape.
Lunella coronata is available in various sizes, allowing you to select specimens that best fit your aquarium setup. Their distinctive shell and beneficial grazing behaviour make them a valuable addition to any marine invertebrate collection.
