In the wild, Amblyeleotris guttata often forms symbiotic relationships with alpheid shrimps, sharing burrows for mutual protection. While this behaviour may not always be replicated in captivity, providing a fine sandy substrate and hiding places can encourage natural behaviours.
Care and Husbandry
- Tank Size: A minimum of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient swimming space and territory.
- Temperament: Generally peaceful and suitable for community reef tanks with non-aggressive tank mates.
- Diet: Carnivorous; feeds on small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is ideal.
- Water Parameters: Stable marine conditions with temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4.
- Substrate and Environment: Fine sand or rubble substrate to allow natural burrowing behaviour. Provide live rock for shelter and territory.
