The Reticulated Dascyllus (Dascyllus reticulatus) is a vibrant and robust damselfish known for its distinctive net-like patterning. This species is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its active behaviour and striking appearance.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for hobbyists with some marine aquarium experience.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. While generally peaceful with other species, it may display territorial behaviour, especially in smaller tanks or when kept in insufficient numbers.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality marine flakes, pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and algae-based foods to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: 75 litres (20 gallons) recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes.
Compatibility: Compatible with a range of peaceful to semi-aggressive tank mates. Avoid housing with very aggressive species or slow-moving fish that may be stressed.
Reef Safety: With Caution. May nip at coral polyps or small invertebrates; monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Approximately 8 cm (3 inches).
When introducing Reticulated Dascyllus to your aquarium, ensure stable water parameters and provide plenty of hiding places using live rock. Regular water changes and good filtration will support their health and vibrant colours.
