Hippocampus reidi, commonly known as the Reidi Seahorse, is a captivating species prized for its delicate appearance and unique swimming style. Our stock consists of small to medium-sized tank-bred specimens, ensuring healthier, more adaptable individuals for your marine aquarium.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to their specialised dietary and environmental needs.
Temperament and Compatibility: Reidi Seahorses are peaceful and slow-moving, best housed with non-aggressive tank mates. Avoid fast or territorial fish that may outcompete them for food or cause stress.
Diet: They require a diet of live or frozen mysis shrimp and other suitable small crustaceans. Feeding multiple times daily is essential to maintain health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres is advised to provide adequate swimming space and stable water parameters. Gentle water flow mimicking their natural habitat is crucial to prevent exhaustion.
Lighting and Placement: Moderate lighting is sufficient. Provide plenty of hitching posts such as macroalgae or artificial seahorse-specific décor to allow natural anchoring behaviour.
Reef Compatibility: Generally reef safe, but care should be taken as they may nip at very small invertebrates.
Origin: Tank-bred in controlled aquaculture environments, reducing wild collection impact and improving survivability.
Maximum Size: Typically grows up to 15 cm in length.
