Scleronephthya spp. are a genus of soft corals known for their vibrant colours and delicate, tree-like structures. These corals are prized in marine aquariums for their aesthetic appeal but require careful husbandry to maintain health and vibrancy.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended to avoid bleaching. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum are ideal.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is essential to ensure adequate nutrient delivery without damaging the delicate polyps.
Placement: Position this coral in a shaded or semi-shaded area of the reef tank, away from aggressive neighbours to prevent stinging or overgrowth. Provide adequate spacing to allow for growth and polyp extension.
Feeding: While Scleronephthya spp. benefit from photosynthesis via their symbiotic zooxanthellae, they also require supplemental feeding of planktonic foods such as phytoplankton or specialised coral feeds to thrive.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive corals that may outcompete or damage it.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Suitable for aquarists with experience in maintaining soft corals and stable reef systems.
