The Goniopora spp. (Juicy Pumpkin) is a stunning large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vivid orange and green hues, adding a splash of colour to mature reef aquariums. This tank-bred frag is cultivated under controlled conditions, ensuring a healthy and sustainable addition to your marine setup.
Care Level: Moderate – best suited for aquarists with some experience in maintaining LPS corals.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is ideal. LED or T5 lighting systems providing a PAR range of approximately 50-100 are recommended to maintain vibrant coloration without causing stress.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water movement is preferred to facilitate nutrient exchange and prevent detritus accumulation on the coral’s polyps.
Placement: Position the frag on a stable rockwork base in the middle to lower regions of the tank. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression and allow full polyp extension.
Diet: While Goniopora spp. can derive nutrition from photosynthesis via their symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding with fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton, rotifers, or specialised coral foods 2-3 times weekly will promote optimal growth and polyp extension.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive or fast-growing corals that may overshadow or sting the Goniopora.
Additional Notes: Regular water parameter monitoring is essential. Maintain stable conditions with temperature around 24-26°C, salinity at 1.025 SG, and low nutrient levels to prevent algae overgrowth.
