Recognisable by its distinctive spotted pattern and elongated body, this species offers both aesthetic appeal and peaceful behaviour, making it suitable for community reef tanks.
Care Level: Moderate. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Spotted Rabbitfish coexists well with other non-aggressive fish. It is best kept singly or in pairs to avoid territorial disputes. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species.
Diet: Herbivorous. Their diet should primarily consist of marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore pellets and occasional vegetable matter to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and grazing surfaces. Maintain stable water conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4.
Reef Compatibility: Yes. Siganus punctatus is considered reef safe as it primarily feeds on algae and does not typically nip at corals, but monitoring is advised.
Additional Notes: Provide plenty of hiding places and live rock to mimic natural habitat and reduce stress. Regular water changes and good filtration will support health and longevity.
