Pygoplites diacanthus, commonly known as the Regal Angelfish, is a visually stunning marine fish native to the Pacific Ocean. This small variant is perfect for experienced marine aquarists seeking to add a splash of vibrant colour to their reef or fish-only aquarium.
Care Level: This species requires a stable, mature aquarium environment with pristine water quality. It is recommended for advanced hobbyists due to its specific dietary and environmental needs.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. Best kept singly or as a mated pair in a tank with plenty of hiding spaces. Compatible with other peaceful community fish but avoid aggressive tankmates.
Diet: Omnivorous with a preference for sponges and tunicates in the wild. In captivity, provide a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, spirulina, and marine algae to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territories. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock to support natural grazing behaviour.
Lighting and Water Flow: Moderate lighting and gentle to moderate water flow replicate natural reef conditions and support the fish’s health and activity.
Origin: Pacific Ocean.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches).
