The Sixbar Angelfish (Pomacanthus sexstriatus) is a captivating species prized for its distinctive six-barred pattern and vibrant colours. This large angelfish is a popular choice among experienced marine aquarists due to its impressive size and striking appearance.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It may show territorial behaviour, especially towards other angelfish or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: At least 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons) to accommodate its size and swimming needs.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient; no special lighting needed.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow to mimic natural reef conditions.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Avoid overcrowding to reduce stress and aggression.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 40 cm (approximately 16 inches) in length.
Due to its size and temperament, the Sixbar Angelfish is best kept in a species-specific or mixed reef tank with compatible tank mates. It is not considered reef safe as it may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates.
