Plerogyra sinuosa, commonly known as Bubble Coral, is a striking member of the Euphyllidae family prized for its unique vesicle-like polyps that gently pulse in the water. This extra large specimen offers a dramatic focal point for mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal to maintain the coral’s vibrant appearance without causing bleaching. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is recommended to facilitate gas exchange and prevent detritus accumulation within the vesicles, while avoiding damage to the delicate polyps.
Placement: Position this coral on a stable substrate or rockwork in a low to mid-level area of the tank. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as Plerogyra sinuosa can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care: This species requires stable water parameters typical of reef aquaria, including temperature between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and low nutrient levels. Feeding is optional but can be supplemented with small meaty foods such as mysis or brine shrimp to encourage growth.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals. Avoid placing near aggressive or fast-growing species that may overshadow or sting it.
With its captivating form and moderate care needs, the extra large Plerogyra sinuosa is a rewarding addition for dedicated marine aquarists.
