Pachyseris gemmae is a striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral belonging to the Agariciidae family. This medium-sized specimen is a captivating addition to mature reef aquariums, prized for its textured skeletal structure and vibrant colours.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended to mimic its natural habitat, avoiding intense direct light which may cause bleaching. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to ensure adequate nutrient delivery while preventing tissue damage. Avoid strong currents that may stress the coral.
Placement: Position Pachyseris gemmae on stable rockwork with sufficient space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression and allow for growth. Mid to lower levels of the aquarium are preferred.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists due to specific husbandry requirements.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing; avoid placing near aggressive coral species.
Feeding: While Pachyseris gemmae derives much of its nutrition from photosynthesis via symbiotic zooxanthellae, supplemental feeding of planktonic foods or coral-specific liquid supplements can promote growth and vibrancy.
Maintain stable water parameters typical of reef aquariums: temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4, and low nutrient levels.
