The Yellowtail Snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus) is a visually stunning marine fish prized for its bright yellow tail and streamlined body marked with a distinctive lateral stripe. This extra large specimen is perfect for advanced hobbyists seeking a bold and active addition to their marine aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but active, Yellowtail Snappers can coexist with a variety of similarly sized, non-aggressive fish. Avoid housing with very small or timid species to prevent stress or predation. They may show territorial behaviour in confined spaces.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, they thrive on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as shrimp, krill, and small crustaceans, supplemented with marine algae or flakes to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: Due to their active swimming habits and potential adult size, a minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended to provide ample space. Maintain stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and excellent filtration.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, they may occasionally nip at smaller invertebrates or corals, so monitor interactions closely in reef setups.
Additional Care: Provide plenty of swimming space and some hiding spots using live rock. Regular water changes and monitoring of water quality are essential to maintain health.
