Montipora stellata is a small-sized SPS coral prized for its intricate plating and vibrant colours, making it a popular choice among advanced marine aquarists. This species thrives under moderate to high lighting conditions and benefits from strong, turbulent water flow to mimic its natural reef environment.
When introducing Montipora stellata to your aquarium, position it in an area with ample light exposure but avoid direct intense light that may cause bleaching. Ensure good water movement around the coral to prevent sediment accumulation and promote healthy polyp extension.
Spacing is important; maintain adequate distance from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions and allow room for growth. This coral is generally reef safe, but best kept with caution to avoid contact with more aggressive species.
Regular monitoring of water parameters, including stable alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium levels, will support optimal health and vibrant coloration. Feeding is not typically required as Montipora stellata derives most of its nutrition from photosynthesis, but occasional supplementation with coral foods can be beneficial.
