Manonichthys splendens is a visually captivating dottyback species prized for its vibrant blue and yellow coloration. This species is a peaceful addition to community marine tanks, provided it is housed with compatible tankmates and given appropriate care.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar-shaped fish. Best kept singly or as a mated pair in a well-structured aquarium. Compatible with other peaceful fish species but avoid aggressive or overly dominant tankmates.
Diet: Carnivorous; thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and specialised marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should include plenty of live rock for hiding and establishing territories.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.020-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: Manonichthys splendens is generally considered reef safe with caution. It may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals, so monitor closely in reef setups.
