The Sebae Snapper (Lutjanus sebae) is a visually impressive species known for its vibrant red and white coloration and strong, streamlined body. This medium-sized snapper is a popular choice among experienced marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its striking appearance and active behaviour.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. The Sebae Snapper requires stable water conditions and a large aquarium to thrive.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is semi-aggressive and may show territorial behaviour, especially as it matures. It is best housed with similarly sized or larger robust fish. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species to prevent stress or predation.
Diet: Carnivorous. Provide a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, and fish fillets. Supplement with specialised carnivore pellets to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 300 litres is recommended to accommodate its active swimming and territorial needs. Provide ample hiding places with live rock formations and open swimming areas.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. The Sebae Snapper may prey on smaller invertebrates and fish, so it is not recommended for reef tanks with delicate corals or invertebrates.
This species is wild-caught; therefore, ensure acclimation is done carefully to reduce stress and promote health.
