Lobophyllia spp. (Orange-Red) is a spectacular large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vivid orange-red coloration and impressive size. This XXXL specimen makes a striking centrepiece in mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended to maintain vibrant colours without causing stress. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Provide low to moderate water movement to ensure adequate gas exchange and nutrient delivery while avoiding tissue damage.
Placement: Position this coral on a stable substrate or rockwork with enough space around it to prevent aggression towards neighbouring corals. Lobophyllia spp. can extend sweeper tentacles, so maintain at least 10-15 cm clearance.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists due to its size and specific husbandry needs.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods to promote growth and colour.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Generally reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive or fast-growing corals.
Additional Notes: Regular water parameter monitoring is essential to maintain stable calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels for optimal skeletal growth.
