Heliofungia actiniformis, commonly known as the Green Fungia Coral, is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its anemone-like appearance and vibrant green tentacles. This medium-sized specimen makes an excellent focal point in mature reef aquariums.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is recommended to maintain vibrant colouration without causing stress. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Provide gentle to moderate water flow to ensure adequate nutrient delivery and waste removal while preventing damage to the delicate tentacles.
Placement: Position on sandy or rubble substrate where it can fully expand without interference. Ensure ample space from neighbouring corals to avoid aggressive interactions, as Heliofungia can extend sweeper tentacles.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or coral-specific liquid foods 1-2 times per week.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Reef safe with caution; maintain adequate spacing from other corals to prevent stinging. Generally peaceful towards fish and invertebrates.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a mature tank environment.
Additional Notes: Avoid sudden changes in lighting or water flow to reduce stress. Regular water quality monitoring is essential for long-term health.
