The Gramma loreto, or Royal Gramma, is a small, peaceful basslet native to the tropical western Atlantic Ocean. Renowned for its vivid purple front half and bright yellow rear, it adds a splash of colour and activity to reef aquariums.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is generally peaceful and compatible with a wide range of community marine fish. It can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar-shaped basslets, so it is best kept singly or as a mated pair in tanks with sufficient space.
Diet: Gramma loreto is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality marine pellets or flakes.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territories. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for hiding and grazing.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: The Royal Gramma is considered reef safe and can be kept with corals and invertebrates without issue.
Overall, the Gramma loreto is an excellent choice for hobbyists seeking a hardy, colourful, and peaceful basslet for their marine aquarium.
