Euphyllia paraancora (Yellow-Gold) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant yellow-gold tentacles and distinctive appearance. This species adds dynamic movement and colour to mature reef aquariums, making it a popular choice among experienced marine hobbyists.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended, ideally provided by LED or T5 fixtures that simulate natural reef conditions without excessive intensity. Avoid placing this coral under very high light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Euphyllia paraancora thrives under moderate, indirect water flow. Strong currents can cause tissue damage, while too little flow may lead to detritus accumulation and poor health.
Placement: Position this coral in areas with adequate space to accommodate its extended tentacles, as it can deliver a potent sting to neighbouring corals. Ensure a minimum of 10cm clearance from other LPS or SPS corals to prevent aggression.
Care Level: Moderate care is required. Stable water parameters and regular monitoring of calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium are essential for optimal growth and health.
Diet: While primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, Euphyllia paraancora benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialised coral foods to promote vibrant colouration and growth.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive or fast-growing corals that may overshadow or damage it.
Additional Notes: This large specimen is ideal for aquarists with established reef tanks of at least 100 litres. Regular water changes and stable water chemistry will ensure long-term success.
