Euphyllia glabrescens (Rasta) is a spectacular large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles and vibrant colouration reminiscent of the iconic ‘Rasta’ pattern. This small specimen is ideal for marine aquarium enthusiasts looking to add dynamic movement and texture to their reef environment.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to support healthy growth and maintain vivid colours. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to gently sway the tentacles without causing damage or excessive retraction.
Placement: Position this coral in a location with adequate space to prevent contact with neighbouring corals, as Euphyllia species possess sweeper tentacles that can sting adjacent livestock. Mid to lower areas of the tank often suit this coral well.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally compatible with many reef inhabitants, ensure sufficient spacing from other corals to avoid aggression.
Care Level: Intermediate. Requires stable water parameters and attentive husbandry to thrive.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, will support skeletal growth. Feeding can be supplemented with small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods to encourage polyp extension and vitality.
