Euphyllia glabrescens (Hellfire) is a spectacular large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles and intense fiery orange to red hues, making it a standout addition to any marine reef aquarium.
This frag is a single head (1 hd.) specimen, cultivated under controlled conditions to ensure health and vibrancy. The Hellfire variant is especially popular for its striking colouration and dynamic movement in moderate water flow.
Care Requirements
- Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended, ideally provided by LED or T5 fixtures that support coral growth without causing bleaching.
- Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is best to allow the tentacles to sway naturally without being damaged by strong currents.
- Avoid placing directly in strong flow areas.
- Placement: Position in the middle to lower regions of the tank, ensuring adequate space around the coral to prevent aggression towards neighbouring corals.
- Spacing: Maintain at least 10cm distance from other corals to avoid stinging interactions.
Additional Husbandry Notes
Euphyllia glabrescens benefits from stable water parameters typical of reef aquaria: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and stable alkalinity and calcium levels. Feeding is optional but can include small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods to enhance growth and colour.
This coral is considered reef safe with adequate spacing, as its sweeper tentacles can sting neighbouring corals if placed too close.
