Euphyllia divisa, commonly known as the Frogspawn coral, is a popular large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its distinctive branching tentacles and vibrant colours. This medium-sized specimen offers dynamic movement and a captivating presence in reef aquaria.
Lighting: Euphyllia divisa thrives under moderate lighting conditions. LED, T5, or metal halide lighting systems providing moderate PAR levels are recommended to maintain healthy pigmentation and polyp extension.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is ideal. Strong currents can cause tissue damage, while too little flow may lead to debris accumulation and poor health.
Placement: Position this coral in a location with enough space to accommodate its sweeping tentacles, as it can extend and sting neighbouring corals. Adequate spacing is essential to prevent aggression and ensure reef compatibility.
Care Level: Moderate care requirements make Euphyllia divisa suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining LPS corals.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp or specialised coral foods to support growth.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; ensure sufficient spacing from other corals to avoid stinging interactions.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water parameters typical of reef tanks: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
