Euphyllia ancora (Green) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its striking green tentacles and unique hammer-shaped polyps. This premium large specimen is perfect for experienced reef keepers looking to add dynamic movement and vibrant colour to their marine aquarium.
Lighting: Euphyllia ancora thrives under moderate lighting conditions, such as T5 fluorescents or LED systems providing 100-150 PAR. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to gently sway the tentacles without causing tissue damage. Too strong a current can stress the coral.
Placement: Position this coral in the middle to lower regions of the tank, ensuring adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions. Euphyllia species possess sweeper tentacles that can sting nearby corals.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near delicate or slow-growing corals.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, or specialised coral foods to promote growth and vibrancy.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining stable water parameters and lighting.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water chemistry with parameters typical for reef tanks: temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
