Ecsenius minutus, commonly known as the Minute Blenny, is a charming and peaceful species native to the Maldives. This small blenny is an excellent addition to reef aquariums due to its generally reef-safe nature and manageable size.
Appearance and Size: Ecsenius minutus remains relatively small, making it suitable for a variety of tank sizes. Its subtle colouring and delicate features add natural beauty without overwhelming the aquarium environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is peaceful and tends to coexist well with other non-aggressive fish. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger peaceful tank mates. Avoid housing with highly aggressive species to prevent stress.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, Ecsenius minutus thrives on a diet rich in algae and plant matter. Supplement with high-quality marine flake or pellet foods formulated for herbivores, as well as occasional live or frozen foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 30 litres is recommended to provide adequate swimming space and territory. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots to mimic their natural habitat.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4. Moderate water flow and lighting are suitable, replicating reef environments.
Reef Compatibility: Ecsenius minutus is considered reef safe and generally does not harm corals or invertebrates, making it an excellent choice for reef aquariums.
