Echinophyllia spp. are a genus of large polyp stony (LPS) corals prized for their striking colours and textured appearance. This large specimen offers a bold addition to mature reef aquariums, providing both visual interest and moderate care challenges.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to maintain vibrant pigmentation and healthy growth. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum are ideal.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is best to ensure adequate nutrient exchange without causing tissue damage. Avoid direct strong currents that may stress the coral.
Placement: Position this coral on stable rockwork in the mid to lower regions of the tank. Allow sufficient space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression, as Echinophyllia spp. can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists with experience in maintaining stable water parameters and consistent feeding routines.
Feeding: While photosynthetic, supplemental feeding with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods can enhance growth and colour.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive or fast-growing corals that may overshadow or damage it.
