Discosoma spp. (Spotted) are popular soft corals known for their attractive spotted appearance and ease of care, making them an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists. This Grade A small specimen offers vibrant colours and healthy polyp extension, adding natural beauty and movement to your reef aquarium.
Lighting: Discosoma spp. thrive under moderate lighting conditions. LED or T5 lighting with a PAR range of approximately 50-100 is ideal to maintain their vibrant colours without causing bleaching.
Water Flow: Provide gentle to moderate water flow to ensure the coral receives adequate nutrients while avoiding tissue damage from strong currents.
Placement: Position this soft coral on rockwork or substrate in shaded or semi-shaded areas of the tank. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression or overgrowth.
Care Level: Easy to moderate. Discosoma spp. are hardy and adaptable but benefit from stable water parameters and regular monitoring.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. They coexist well with most peaceful reef inhabitants but avoid placing near aggressive corals.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but will benefit from occasional feeding of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton or coral-specific liquid supplements.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water parameters typical of reef aquaria: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4, and low nutrient levels. Regular water changes and monitoring will promote optimal health.
