Red Discosoma spp. (Tank-Bred Ultra Frag) is a striking soft coral known for its vivid red coloration and ease of care, making it an excellent choice for both beginner and experienced marine aquarists.
These corals are Tank-Bred, ensuring robust health and acclimatisation to captive conditions. The ultra frag format provides a manageable size for gradual growth and easy placement within your reef tank.
Care and Husbandry
- Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal. Discosoma spp. thrive under LED or T5 lighting setups that provide balanced PAR levels without intense direct exposure.
- Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water movement helps maintain coral health and prevents detritus accumulation without stressing the polyps.
- Placement: Position on rockwork or substrate where the coral can expand fully. Ensure adequate spacing from aggressive corals to prevent irritation.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and stable pH around 8.1-8.4.
Compatibility and Reef Safety
Red Discosoma spp. are reef safe with adequate spacing. They coexist well with most peaceful reef inhabitants but should be kept away from highly aggressive corals to avoid chemical warfare or physical damage.
Additional Notes
Feeding is generally not required as Discosoma spp. derive much of their nutrition from photosynthesis and dissolved nutrients. However, occasional target feeding with coral foods can promote growth.
