Discosoma spp. Jawbreaker is a vibrant and hardy soft coral, popular among marine aquarium enthusiasts for its striking colours and ease of care. This Grade A frag consists of one ear, tank-bred to ensure sustainability and adaptability to captive conditions.
Lighting: Discosoma Jawbreaker thrives under moderate lighting conditions. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching; LED or T5 lighting with adjustable intensity is ideal.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is recommended to keep the coral healthy without causing tissue damage. Too strong a current can cause the coral to retract or become stressed.
Placement: Place the frag on rockwork or substrate with enough space to prevent contact with aggressive neighbouring corals. Discosoma spp. can expand and may release toxins, so maintain adequate spacing.
Care: This soft coral is suitable for beginners and experienced hobbyists alike. It benefits from stable water parameters typical of reef aquariums: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and pH 8.1-8.4.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants but avoid placing near aggressive corals.
Feeding: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae but will benefit from occasional feeding of microplankton or coral foods.
