Cyphastrea decadia is a captivating medium-sized large polyp stony (LPS) coral belonging to the Faviidae family. Known for its distinctive, tightly packed corallites and subtle colour variations, this coral is a beautiful addition to any reef aquarium.
Lighting: This species thrives under moderate lighting conditions, such as T5 fluorescents or LED setups providing medium PAR levels. Avoid intense direct lighting to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal to ensure adequate nutrient delivery and waste removal without causing tissue damage.
Placement: Position Cyphastrea decadia on stable rockwork in mid to lower areas of the tank where lighting and flow are moderate. Ensure sufficient space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression.
Care Level: Suitable for aquarists with some experience in keeping LPS corals. Maintain stable water parameters and regular feeding to promote healthy growth.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals to avoid stinging or overgrowth. Compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants.
Feeding: While photosynthetic, Cyphastrea decadia benefits from supplemental feeding of small meaty foods such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, or specialised coral foods 1-2 times weekly.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions: temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
