Cynarina spp. are large polyp stony (LPS) corals belonging to the Mussidae family, prized for their vibrant colours and distinctive fleshy polyps. This premium medium-sized specimen offers a striking addition to mature reef tanks.
Lighting: Moderate to low lighting is recommended to prevent bleaching and maintain vibrant colours. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to keep the coral healthy without damaging its delicate polyps.
Placement: Place Cynarina spp. on the substrate or lower rockwork to replicate natural conditions and avoid excessive light exposure. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression and tissue damage.
Feeding: While photosynthetic, Cynarina spp. benefit from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods 1-2 times per week.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; maintain sufficient distance from aggressive corals to avoid stinging. Suitable for experienced hobbyists due to moderate care requirements.
Water Parameters: Stable marine conditions with temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4, and low nutrient levels are essential for optimal health.
