Overview: The Humpback Grouper (Cromileptes altivelis) is a visually captivating species prized for its unique body shape and gentle nature compared to other groupers. This tank-bred small specimen offers hobbyists a sustainable and hardy option for a marine aquarium.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and a suitably sized tank.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful but may exhibit territorial behaviour as it matures. Best housed with similarly sized, non-aggressive fish. Avoid keeping with very small or timid species to prevent stress.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet of meaty foods such as chopped seafood, crustaceans, and specialised marine pellets or frozen foods to ensure optimal health.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and natural behaviour.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. May prey on smaller invertebrates and fish, so not recommended for delicate reef setups.
Origin: Tank-bred in controlled aquaculture facilities, ensuring healthier specimens and reduced wild collection impact.
