Overview: The Ryukyu Fairy Wrasse (Cirrhilabrus ryukyuensis) is a stunning species native to the Ryukyu Islands region. Known for its vivid colours and graceful swimming, it is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking an active and peaceful wrasse.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for hobbyists with some marine aquarium experience.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is peaceful and generally compatible with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is best kept singly or in a harem with one male and several females to reduce territorial disputes. Avoid housing with overly aggressive or large predatory fish.
Diet: Carnivorous – feeds on a variety of meaty foods including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality prepared marine pellets or flakes. Feed small amounts 2-3 times daily.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space. A well-established reef aquarium with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging is ideal.
Water Parameters: Stable marine conditions with temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025 SG, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: Yes – safe with corals and invertebrates when housed in a mature reef system.
Additional Notes: Provide a secure lid as wrasses are known jumpers. Regular water changes and maintaining excellent water quality will ensure optimal health and vibrant colours.
