Cirrhilabrus filamentosus is a striking wrasse species known for its vivid colours and graceful swimming behaviour, making it a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts. This species is suitable for intermediate hobbyists due to its specific care requirements and peaceful temperament.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, Cirrhilabrus filamentosus coexists well with other non-aggressive fish. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger tank mates to avoid stress or bullying. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species.
Diet: This wrasse is carnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space. The aquarium should have plenty of live rock for hiding and resting, as well as open swimming areas.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 specific gravity, pH 8.1-8.4, and moderate water flow.
Reef Compatibility: Cirrhilabrus filamentosus is considered reef safe with caution. It generally does not harm corals but may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals, so monitoring is advised.
Available in various sizes, this species allows hobbyists to select specimens suitable for their tank and experience level.
