Centropyge argi, commonly referred to as the Flame Angelfish, is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vivid coloration and manageable size. This medium-sized specimen typically reaches up to 10 cm in length, making it suitable for aquariums starting from 75 litres.
Temperament and Compatibility: Flame Angelfish are generally semi-aggressive. They can coexist with a variety of peaceful to moderately aggressive tank mates but may show territorial behaviour towards other dwarf angelfish or similar species. It is advisable to keep only one Centropyge argi per tank unless the aquarium is very large and well-structured with plenty of hiding spaces.
Diet: This species is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet. Offer a mix of high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and marine algae or spirulina-based foods. Supplementing with live rock algae encourages natural grazing behaviour and supports overall health.
Reef Compatibility: Flame Angelfish are considered reef safe with caution. While they generally coexist peacefully with corals, they may nip at certain sessile invertebrates or clams. Monitoring their behaviour in a reef environment is recommended.
Care Level: Moderate. They require stable water parameters and a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size is 75 litres to provide adequate swimming space and territory. Maintain water temperature between 24-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG. Moderate water flow and lighting suitable for reef aquariums are recommended.
Origin: Western Atlantic, including the Caribbean Sea.
