Caulastrea furcata is a popular large polyp stony (LPS) coral belonging to the family Faviidae. Recognised for its unique, tubular polyps and vibrant colours, it makes an excellent addition to a mature reef aquarium.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal for Caulastrea furcata. It thrives under LED, T5, or metal halide lighting systems that provide balanced PAR levels without excessive intensity.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is recommended to ensure adequate nutrient delivery and waste removal while preventing tissue damage. Avoid strong direct currents that may stress the coral.
Placement: Position this coral on stable rockwork in the middle to lower regions of the tank. Provide sufficient spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as Caulastrea furcata can extend sweeper tentacles.
Diet: While primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, Caulastrea furcata benefits from supplemental feeding. Offer small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialised coral foods 1–2 times per week to promote growth and vibrancy.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This coral is generally reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals to avoid aggression. It coexists well with most peaceful reef inhabitants.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate aquarists with some experience in maintaining stable water parameters and moderate lighting conditions.
