Caulastrea echinulata is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral belonging to the family Faviidae. Known for its vibrant colours and distinctive round polyps, this coral adds both texture and colour to marine reef aquariums.
Lighting: This species thrives under moderate lighting conditions. LED, T5, or metal halide lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum are ideal to maintain its vibrant colours without causing stress.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is recommended to ensure adequate nutrient delivery and waste removal without damaging the delicate polyps.
Placement: Position Caulastrea echinulata on stable rockwork in the middle to lower sections of the tank. Ensure sufficient spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as it can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate aquarists, this coral is relatively hardy but benefits from stable water parameters and consistent care.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; it coexists well with most reef inhabitants if given adequate space to prevent coral warfare.
Feeding: While photosynthetic, Caulastrea echinulata benefits from supplemental feeding of small meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods to promote growth and polyp extension.
Maintain stable marine aquarium conditions with parameters typical for reef tanks: temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4, and low nutrient levels.
