Briareum asbestium is a captivating soft coral belonging to the gorgonian family, prized for its flowing polyps and vibrant appearance. This medium-sized specimen offers an excellent addition to mature reef tanks, providing dynamic movement and texture.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to support healthy growth and maintain vibrant colouration. LED or T5 lighting systems are suitable.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to ensure the coral’s polyps can extend fully without being damaged by strong currents.
Placement: Position this coral in a mid to upper section of the aquarium where it can receive adequate light and water movement. Ensure sufficient spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as Briareum can release allelopathic compounds.
Care Level: Intermediate. While hardy, Briareum asbestium requires stable water parameters and attentive husbandry to thrive.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near highly aggressive corals or those sensitive to chemical warfare.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and stable pH around 8.1-8.4.
Regular monitoring and water quality maintenance are essential to prevent algae overgrowth and ensure optimal coral health.
