Blastomussa wellsi is a striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant colours and fleshy polyps. This premium Tiny variant features three healthy heads, making it an excellent addition to established reef tanks.
Tank-bred for sustainability and acclimatised to aquarium conditions, this coral is suitable for hobbyists seeking a hardy yet visually impressive Mussidae species.
Care and Husbandry
- Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal, such as LED or T5 setups providing 50-150 PAR. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
- Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water movement helps maintain polyp health and prevents detritus accumulation.
- Placement: Position on rockwork or substrate with adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to reduce aggression and ensure optimal growth.
- Feeding: While photosynthetic, Blastomussa wellsi benefits from occasional target feeding with meaty foods like mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable reef conditions: temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
Compatibility
This coral is reef safe with adequate spacing but may exhibit mild aggression via sweeper tentacles. Keep away from delicate or slow-growing neighbours.
