Blastomussa wellsi is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant colours and fleshy polyps. Our premium Extra Extra Large specimens feature 13-14 healthy heads, making them a striking addition to any mature reef aquarium.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal, such as T5 fluorescents or LED setups providing 50-150 PAR. Too intense lighting may cause bleaching or retraction of polyps.
Water Flow: Low to moderate, indirect water flow is recommended to ensure polyps can fully extend without damage.
Placement: Position Blastomussa wellsi on the substrate or lower rockwork where it can expand comfortably. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists due to specific lighting and flow needs.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods 1-2 times weekly.
Reef Compatibility: Yes, with adequate spacing to avoid stinging neighbouring corals.
Regular water quality maintenance and stable parameters are essential for optimal health and growth.
