Apolemichthys trimaculatus, commonly known as the Three-Spot Angelfish, is a visually stunning species prized for its distinctive pattern of three prominent spots. This small-sized angelfish is best suited for marine aquariums of at least 150 litres, where it can thrive in a stable environment with plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a varied diet to maintain optimal health.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. It can be territorial, especially towards other angelfish or similar species, so careful consideration of tank mates is essential.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, spirulina, and marine algae to ensure balanced nutrition.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally considered reef safe, it may nip at corals or sessile invertebrates, so monitoring is advised.
Tank Requirements: Minimum tank size of 150 litres recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour. Maintain stable water parameters with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, and pH 8.1-8.4.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 20 cm in length.
Regular partial water changes and a well-established biological filtration system are essential to maintain water quality. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots to reduce stress.
