Alveopora spp. (Green) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral from the Poritidae family, prized for its delicate, flower-like polyps and vibrant green hues. This medium-sized specimen is suitable for marine aquarists with some experience in coral husbandry.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended, ideally provided by T5 fluorescents or LED systems with adjustable intensity. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water movement is ideal to ensure adequate gas exchange and nutrient delivery without damaging the fragile polyps.
Placement: Position this coral in a shaded or semi-shaded area of the reef tank, ensuring it has enough space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression or stinging. A minimum spacing of 5–7 cm is advised.
Care Level: Moderate. Alveopora spp. require stable water parameters and consistent feeding to thrive.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from supplemental feeding of planktonic foods such as phytoplankton, rotifers, or specialised coral foods.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: Yes, with adequate spacing. This coral is generally reef safe but may be sensitive to aggressive neighbours.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water chemistry with parameters typical for reef aquaria: temperature 24–26°C, salinity 1.023–1.025, calcium 400–450 ppm, alkalinity 8–12 dKH, and magnesium 1250–1350 ppm.
