Acanthastrea lordhowensis (Green) is a stunning Large Polyp Stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant green coloration and robust growth. This tank-bred frag has been carefully cultured to ensure health and acclimation to captive reef environments, making it an excellent choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts in the UK.
Lighting Requirements: Moderate lighting is recommended, ideally from LED or T5 fixtures providing a PAR range of 50-150. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is best to keep the coral’s polyps gently swaying without causing tissue damage.
Placement: Position this frag on the substrate or lower to mid-level rockwork, allowing adequate space from neighbouring corals to prevent aggression. Acanthastrea lordhowensis can extend sweeper tentacles, so maintain at least 5-7 cm clearance.
Diet: While photosynthetic, this coral benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialised coral foods 1-2 times weekly to promote vibrant colour and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals to avoid stinging interactions. Compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for hobbyists with some experience in LPS coral husbandry.
Additional Notes: Regular water parameter monitoring is advised, with stable conditions preferred: temperature 24-26°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, calcium 400-450 ppm, alkalinity 8-12 dKH, and magnesium 1250-1350 ppm.
