Barabattoia amicorum is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral belonging to the Faviidae family, prized for its intricate skeletal structure and vibrant colours. This species is suitable for marine reef aquariums where moderate to experienced hobbyists can provide the stable conditions it requires.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to support photosynthesis and maintain vibrant coloration. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum are ideal.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is preferred to ensure the coral’s delicate polyps are gently moved without being damaged by strong currents.
Placement: Position Barabattoia amicorum on stable rockwork with adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions. This coral can expand significantly, so allow room for growth.
Care Level: Moderate care requirements; stable water parameters and consistent maintenance are essential for optimal health.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic, but benefits from occasional supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as plankton, brine shrimp, or specialised coral foods.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals to avoid stinging or overgrowth.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels, will support healthy skeletal growth. Maintain temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and stable pH around 8.1-8.4.
