Ptereleotris microlepis is a slender, graceful dartfish known for its peaceful temperament and striking appearance. This species is a popular choice for marine aquarium enthusiasts looking to add a calm, reef-safe fish that thrives in community tanks.
These dartfish prefer well-established aquariums with plenty of hiding places such as live rock and crevices. They are generally shy and may take time to acclimate but will become more confident over time. Their peaceful nature makes them compatible with a wide range of other non-aggressive fish species.
Feeding should include a varied diet of high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, supplemented with quality marine flakes or pellets. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
For best husbandry, maintain stable water parameters with a minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) to provide ample swimming space. Moderate lighting and gentle water flow mimic their natural environment and support their wellbeing.
This species is considered reef safe, making it suitable for reef aquariums with corals and invertebrates, provided there is adequate space and hiding spots.
