Apolemichthys griffisi, commonly known as Griffis’ Angelfish, is a captivating medium-sized marine angelfish prized for its distinctive colour patterns and graceful swimming behaviour. This species is suitable for experienced marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its specific care requirements and moderate size.
Temperament and Compatibility: Griffis’ Angelfish is generally peaceful but can exhibit territorial behaviour, especially towards other angelfish or similar-shaped species. It is best housed with other semi-aggressive or peaceful tank mates. Avoid keeping with very small or timid fish to prevent stress.
Diet: This species is omnivorous and thrives on a varied diet including high-quality marine angelfish pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, spirulina, and marine algae. Supplementing with sponge-based foods is beneficial to mimic natural feeding habits.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. Stable water parameters with regular maintenance are essential for health and longevity.
Water Conditions: Maintain temperature between 24-27°C, pH 8.1-8.4, and salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG. Moderate water flow and good filtration are important to replicate natural reef environments.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, Apolemichthys griffisi may nip at sessile invertebrates such as corals and clams. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Origin: Native to the Western Pacific Ocean, particularly around Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
