Siganus doliatus, commonly known as the Foxface Rabbitfish, is a strikingly patterned marine fish popular among experienced aquarists. This extra large specimen showcases its vibrant yellow body with bold black and white markings, making it a captivating addition to larger reef or fish-only marine tanks.
Care Level: Moderate. While hardy, this species requires stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. Best kept singly or in a large tank with plenty of hiding spaces.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, Siganus doliatus thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality vegetable-based flakes, pellets, and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 180 litres (approximately 50 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour.
Reef Safety: With Caution. While generally considered reef safe, they may nip at soft corals or clam mantles, especially if underfed.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard reef lighting and moderate water flow are suitable. Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and shelter.
Placement: Mid to upper levels of the aquarium, where it can graze on algae and swim freely.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches) in length.
Ensure regular water changes and maintain stable water parameters to keep your Foxface Rabbitfish healthy and vibrant. Their natural algae grazing helps control nuisance algae, contributing to a balanced aquarium ecosystem.
