Scolymia australis (Red) is a stunning large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its bold red coloration and fleshy, rounded appearance. This extra large specimen makes an impressive focal point in mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal, such as LED or T5 setups providing around 100-150 PAR. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Low to moderate, indirect water flow is recommended to keep the coral’s tissue healthy and prevent damage.
Placement: Place on the substrate or lower rockwork where it can expand fully without competition. Ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to avoid aggressive interactions.
Care Level: Moderate care is required. Stable water parameters and regular feeding of meaty foods like mysis or brine shrimp will promote growth and vibrant colour.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals, especially other LPS species, to prevent stinging or tissue damage.
Additional Notes: This coral benefits from occasional target feeding and stable calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels. It is suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists.
