The Siganus lineatus, commonly known as the Foxface Rabbitfish, is a striking and peaceful herbivore prized in the marine aquarium hobby. Our stock is tank-bred, ensuring healthier specimens better adapted to captive conditions.
These fish are renowned for their vibrant yellow and black markings and their ability to help control nuisance algae in reef aquariums. They are generally peaceful but may display mild territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar species.
Care and Husbandry
- Diet: Primarily herbivorous; offer a varied diet including marine algae, seaweed sheets (nori), and high-quality herbivore pellets or flakes. Supplement with occasional meaty foods.
- Temperament: Peaceful but can be shy. Best kept singly or in pairs in larger tanks to avoid aggression.
- Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and grazing opportunities.
- Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4.
- Reef Compatibility: With Caution. Generally reef safe but may nip at soft corals or clam mantles.
Additional Information
Foxface Rabbitfish possess venomous spines as a defence mechanism; handle with care during maintenance. Their striking appearance and algae-eating habits make them a valuable addition to peaceful marine aquariums.
